Skysail Development Fill Dredging
Transforming Existing Resources Into New Possibilities.
Cut-and-fill dredging that built a 1,200-unit community from three existing lakes — without conventional dewatering, excavators, or haul trucks.
Submit Project DetailsIn 2020, Neal Communities contracted C&M Dredging to help develop a 980-acre parcel with several existing lakes, a significant fill requirement, and a high water table — conditions that made conventional dewatering and excavation cost-prohibitive.
C&M Dredging worked alongside the developer to perform the bulk of the cut-and-fill requirements without conventional dewatering, excavators, or haul trucks. The plan called for dredging 1,200,000 cubic yards of virgin sand and rock to multiple disposal locations using a 14-inch hydraulic dredge, with material depths ranging from 6 to 21 feet and pump distances reaching up to one mile.
Cutting virgin material from three existing lakes on the parcel, C&M used the dredged material as fill to match the project design for the 1,200-unit residential development. We designed, constructed, and managed discharge pits to maintain fill requirements and meet project goals — meeting every cut, fill, and compaction specification set by the project team with no off-site discharge, no significant weather delays, and no environmental compliance issues.
